How To Make A Body Butter

Hello, hello my fellow creators this week’s formula is a body butter that is perfect for beginners. Very few ingredients are needed to make this into a lightweight, fast absorbing butter. Before I share the written formula there are a few things I wish to go over first. One is, that after the first five ingredients are added into your heat safe container instead of heating it on the stove, try boiling water in a pan first than remove it and place your container in the pan till everything is melted completely! This does not take long at all. Second, there is not a preservative needed because no water is in the formula, but be careful not to introduce water into the final product when apply to your skin. Otherwise nasties will start to grow and ruin it. The last thing I would like mention is this formula makes 4 oz. and once it is made should be stored at room temperature . Now on to the formula!

Formula

Mango Butter - 23.81 g.

Shea Butter - 22.68 g.

Grapeseed Oil - 21.55 g.

Safflower Oil - 21.55 g.

Rosehip Seed Oil - 21.55 g.

Vitamin E - .57 g.

Essential Oil or Fragrance oil - 1.70 g.

DIY WATER FREE FACE CREAM

In my latest YouTube video I showed my viewers how to make this light, water free cream / face cleanser. The cream is more like that of a gel in consistency and feels wonderful on the skin. It can be used to remove makeup and / can be can worn as an overnight face cream too! If you have not yet watched this video I highly encourage you to do so as it takes you step by step through the process. Now on with the formula. Now enjoy!

Formula

Cocoa Butter - 30 g.

Beeswax - 5 g.

Argan Oil - 42 g.

Vitamin E - 1 g.

Essential Oil - .5 g. ( I used Blue Yarrow, however if pregnant or breastfeeding use a different essential oil, as it is not safe.)

BODY LOTION FOR BEGINNERS

If you have ever wanted to make a body lotion from home, then this is a good one. Prefect for beginners! To start out you will need to have a heat safe container and add to it distilled water. To that same container add vegetable glycerin. Now, this next step is important, simply zero out your scale and weigh that same container and everything in it, then write down that weight. This will be very useful later on! Next use a smaller heat safe container and add some additional distilled water. After this step is done, take another heat safe container and add Shea Butter to it. Once, the butter is in your container, now it is time to add avocado oil. In this next step, you will need to have an emulsify wax, I used two different ones because that is what I had on hand. Please do not use beeswax, it will not work! Using a pan or pot heat your ingredients , until everything is completely melted. Make sure to cover your containers with tin foil to avoid anything falling in. Once all is melted, remove from heat. Again weigh your water container and add any water that you need to that to make that loss up from your original container weight. Put the water and glycerin into the oil, butter and wax container and mix well for several minutes. Set this aside and let it cool down a bit. (app. 3-4 minutes) After it has cooled a little, check the temp. you can use a heat gun or just by checking it with your palms. You want it to be below 122 F or room temp. A preservative will need to be added next. Very important step, don’t skip it! Now add your fragrance or essential oils and mix well. Let this sit for 12 to 24 hours to allow your lotion to thicken.

Formula

76 g. Water

3.40 g. Glycerin

17.01 g. Avocado oil

5.67 g. Shea Butter

3.40 g. Cetyl Alcohol

6.80 g. Emulsifying Wax NF

.57 g. fragrance

.57 g. preservative (I used Liquid Germall Plus)

WHIPPED SUGAR SCRUBS

Here is a wonderful exfoliating body scrub that is so creamy and bubbly that it is a must for all DIY creators! When I first started formulating this my main goal was to create a scrub for the body that was super moisturizing but still had a lot of lather. The process was an exhausted task but I think you will find that I finally created one.

FORMULA

Bath base 45.36 g.

Cane Sugar 56.70 g.

Carrier Oil 7.94 g.

Fragrance 1.13 g.

Vitamin E 1.13 g.

Preservative 1.13 g.

Mica (optional)

Mix with a hand held mixer each time an ingredient is added. This ensures that your scrub becomes fluffy in texture. You can chose to add a color if you would like. I found that if you add the color to the sugar first before adding it to the base it held the color better. First, start with your bath base, then add the sugar. Once you have done that and mixed it well add the oil. The fragrance, vitamin E and the preservative can be added all together just make sure to mix mix completely. Now package! And your done. Enjoy!

Natural DIY Shaving Butter

On my latest YouTube video I showed how to make a fairly simple shaving butter that moisturizes and cleans your skin but also is hydrating too! No more store bought shaving cream for me that is for sure! So if you have yet to see this video I recommend that you do so as I walk you through the process but share a link as well to where you can find a container like the one I used. Simply search for my channel Erin’s Herbs once there I upload a new formula every week.

Well, I hope you enjoy creating this formula like I did. As for the melt and pour soap you can use whatever you like it does not matter. Bye for now!

DIY HYDRATING FACE SERUM

Do you want soft hydrated skin? If you said yes, then this formula is for you. I created this with an herbal infused oil I made myself. Here is the formula for this great serum. Just to let you know this makes 2 oz. Happy formulating!

10 g. Rosehip Seed Oil

46.70 g. Calendula Infused Apricot Oil

4-5 drops Lavender Essential Oil

Start by adding in your heat safe glass container the Rosehip Seed Oil. Next add the Calendula Infused Apricot Oil. After that add 4-5 drops of Lavender essential oil and gently stir with a non metal stir stick or spoon that does not come in contact with food. Finally, time to package your creation. I recommend using a glass dropper bottle for easy dispensing.

DIY FOAMING HAND WASH

This weeks formula from my YouTube channel is how to make a foaming hand wash. I as mentioned in the video this was by far my favorite formula thus far to create. The color turned out beautiful, the smell was amazing and the lather was so bubbly it was great! So if you have not checked out that video do so ! Any how here is the formula, feel free to customize this if needed. But keep in mind that if you alter the formula it will change the effectiveness of the product!

199.58 g. Distilled Water

22.68 g. Iselux

3.4 g. Fragrance or Essential Oils

1.13 g. Liquid Germall Plus

The above formula makes 8 oz. and I highly recommend putting it into a foaming bottle otherwise the product you will to be too thin and liquidly. Enjoy!

Easy DIY Bath Salts

The formula for this bath salt is rose inspired and incorporates rose absolute essential oil for it’s skin benefits, the amazing scent it offers and for the color it provides. If you don’t have this essential oil or would rather use a fragrance oil instead you can absolutely do so as this formula is very versatile. Check below for substitutions on different ingredients you can use instead. Enjoy!

Bath Salts

222.26 g. Epsom Salt

2.27 g. Rose Absolute Essential Oil

2.27 g. Polysorbate 80

Directions : First using a class container or beaker, add your Polysorbate 80. Next, to that same container add your Rose Absolute essential oil. Once you have done that stir together both the Polysorbate and the Rose until fully incorporated. When this is done, take a separate glass container or beaker and add the Epsom salt. Then add slowly the Polysorbate and essential oil mixture to the salt, making sure to give it a good stir before adding more. After all has been added you should have all the ingredients well combined, if not keep stirring until it is. This formula makes 8 oz. Now it is time to package and enjoy!

To Use: Add 1 to 2 Tablespoons per bath mix well. Keep container in a cool dry place and away from heat or sun to prolong shelf life.

Substitutions:

Epsom Salt- Any kind of salt you chose like Sea Salt.

Rose Essential Oil- Rose Geranium, Frankincense, Lavender our all good choices .

Polysorbate 80- Poly Suga Mulse D9, Red Turkey Oil

Note: What ever fragrance or essential oil you decide to use besides the rose essential oil make sure to check the dermal limit usage rate and make adjustments to the formula by using the same amount of Polysorbate with the fragrance or essential oil . If you use less for the fragrance part add more salt to make up the difference.

All Natural Liquid Soap.

So with prices on just about everything increasing these days I wanted to share with you a formula/recipe to help you save a little. This is something we use a lot of in our house and I like that I can make it quickly, use it right away and best part it is all natural. No synthetics, no dyes no toxic chemicals just natural good for you ingredients.

Below I have a written formula/ recipe that is pretty simple to adjust to meet your needs. I will be sure to add any alternatives that you can use. And If you don’t already you can watch me make this on my YouTube channel. Simply search for Erin’s Herbs.

Liquid Soap

226.80 g. / 1 cup Castille Soap

113.40 g. / 1/2 cup Glycerin

113.40 g./ 1/2 cup Distilled Water

10- 15 drops either essential oils

To start out using a glass container weigh and add your Distilled water. Next to this same container add your glycerin. Glycerin in this formula will help to add moisture and some thickness to the soap. After that is added you will want to weigh out your Castille soap and then add it to the same container with the water and glycerin. Now once you have done that you can stop here or add essential oils of your choice. If you add essential oils, make sure to not exceed 15 drops. Aim for 10 to 15. At this point you will want to mix together all the ingredients. In my video I show how I put mine in a mason jar, so all I have to do is give it a shake and I can store it for later. Be mindful that if storing it place it away from heat and or light and keep it in a cool dry place.

Alternatives:

Glycerin - You can swap this for water if you do not have glycerin. However it will make your soap thin.

Essential oils- If you do not have or would prefer to not use them you can use fragrance oils. Just make sure to follow the manufacture’s directions.

Preservative- This can be added to the formula, just adjust the water weight and follow the manufacture’s directions.

How To Make A Soapy Salt Scrub.

This salt scrub is an easy formula to create. In fact, you may have all the ingredients already at home. So let’s start creating! First, start by adding sea salt ( amount down below) in a glass measuring cup or container. Second, add to that same glass Sunflower oil. Then mix together the salt and oil until the salt is completely immersed in the oil. Next, add Castile Soap (liquid) then stir all the ingredients together. The last step to this formula is adding your fragrance. I chose to add essential oil because not only do they smell amazing but they are beneficial to the skin as well. But you can use either it is your preference.

Formula

  • Sea Salt 142.10 grams

  • Sunflower Oil 70 grams

  • Castile Soap 14.17 grams

  • Essential Oil 4 drops

Substitutions:

Dead Sea Salt can be substituted if you do not have regular sea salt. Apricot, Fractionated Coconut Oil, Safflower, Almond and Avocado Oil can be used in place of Sunflower. If you do not have Castile soap you can use liquid Glycerin soap instead. For a scent in this scrub if you do not have essential oils or prefer not to use them in this formula then you can use a fragrance oil that is skin safe. To know if it is skin safe check either on the product label or on the company’s website. Because of the size of this batch of salt scrub I strongly discourage adding more than 4 drops of either essential oils or fragrance oils. Remember that any changes from the original formula will result in a different texture and effectiveness of the product.

Caution: Do not use on face as it is to coarse.

DIY Lip Scrub

What’s not to love about nice soft lips right? Right! Well, so how do you get your lips to be soft you say? I have just the answer, a lip scrub. Not just any lip scrub but a lip scrub made with finely ground sugar, not coarse, a hydrating oil ,vitamin E and a natural fruit flavor that gives this a beautiful color. Every ingredient in this formula has a purpose, and it’s purpose is to get rid of dry, flaky skin, and add moisture to the lips. Below is the amount and ingredients I used to make this lip scrub.

  • 39.41 grams finely ground sugar

  • 15.88 grams Sunflower oil ( or another carrier oil of your choice)

  • .57 grams flavor oil of choice or essential oils

  • .28 grams Vitamin E oil

  • .28 grams color safe mica (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS:

Add the above amount of sugar to your glass container(or beaker) . Once you have added that you will want to next add the Sunflower oil or another carrier oil of your choice to that same container. After adding the oil you will want to use some sort of flavor oil or essential oils that you prefer ( I recommend not using essential oils for this formula because of safety concerns). Now that you have added your flavor oil you will want to make sure to add Vitamin E oil in to keep the other oils from going rancid as well as the other added benefits that it provides to the skin. At this point in the formula, if you wish to add some color to your scrub you may do so. Just make sure that the coloring you use is lip safe if you don’t know check with the store you purchased from or the maker of the product for details. I chose not to use any because my flavor oil already added color to my scrub. Last of all stir the formula to make sure that all the ingredients are incorporated together. Now it is time to put in a jar or container of your choice. And don’t forget to label. Once this is done you can now use it and enjoy! This scrub can be used 1 to 2 times per week. To use simply apply a small amount to the lips and gently massage in. Once you have done that use a warm wash cloth or rag and remove the scrub entirely. And there you go it really is that easy!

How To Make An Herbal Infused Oil.

Making an herbal infused oil to me at first seemed interesting but it was also a little intimidating as well. But once I got the hang of it I found the process quite easy really. I now find myself making these herbal infused oils often because they offer so many uses. For example in my DIY bath and body formulas I find them offering a light scent with a lovely skin feel. So with that being said let me share with you how I create these herbal infused oils. For a full video showing how I do this process you can access it on my YouTube channel at; https://youtu.be/2pVEus9CUiA

Supplies Needed

  • 2 clean glass jars with lids ( I use mason jars but this is optional)

  • dried herbs, like leaves or flowers

  • carrier oil /carrier oils of your choice ( apricot, olive oil, jojoba etc.)

  • a spoon or stirring utensil ( preferably one that you do not use for food)

First, start by taking one of your clean glass jars and fill half way full of your dried herbs. Making sure to push down the herbs as you are filling. After putting the herbs in you are going to want to take the carrier oil of your choice and pour over the herbs making sure to cover them completely leaving no herbs uncovered. I would recommend that you leave room at the top as to be able to secure your lid tightly. If you notice bubbles when you add the oil don’t worry simply use your spoon and push down on the herbs themselves. This will help to get rid of any air bubbles and just so you know you do not want any air bubbles in your herbal oil it can cause problems. Once you have cover the herbs with your carrier oil it is time to place the lid on tightly. Afterwards label your jar with the herb you used, the oil and the date. Now repeat this process again with your second jar. I personally used two different kinds of herbs and oils in my jars but you can use whatever you have available. Word of caution labeling your jars is crucial. The first time I created herbal infused oils I did not label them and oh boy that was a huge mistake. I since then I have learned my lesson and hope that you don’t go through what I did! After both jars are filled give them each a good shake, not too hard though. Now after that you will want to place your jars either on a windowsill or something similar that gets sunlight. This will help the infusing process. Allow your herbal oil to sit for 4-6 weeks before use. Check them often to how they are doing and shake them daily. Congratulations you did it! In 4-6 weeks you will be ready for the next step so stay tuned for a follow up blogpost on this. Bye for now.

Here is a great recipe for those days (or times) when you just need a little more energy. As a busy mom this is something I use quite often and oh how it works! With just 3 simple ingredients it is easy peasy to put together and best part is it made with good for you ingredients like essential oils. So Let’s dive in to how you go about making this wonderful blend!

  • one glass jar or beaker

  • a carrier of choice ( coconut oil, apricot oil, almond oil etc.)

Instructions:

To begin, take a glass container, like a beaker and measure out 10 grams of carrier oil of choice. Next, add 3 drops of your peppermint essential oil into the carrier oil. Homemade Beard Oil

This beard oil is an inexpensive recipe with ingredients that add shine, softness, and can help the hair grow longer. In fact, this can be used on not only beards but on any head of hair. I use it on my ends to moisturize and help with breakage.

The key ingredients are almond oil and jojoba oil. Almond oil contains minerals biotin and magnesium which are great for beard growth. Jojoba oil, which actually is not an oil but rather a wax, is wonderful for the hair, because it moisturizes and helps to reduce breakage of the hair. With this recipe I included several different essential oils to add a a great scent but also to remove dirt, to combat dandruff and protect the hair from dryness.

Supplies Needed

  • A glass container ( one that can hold at least 2 ounces or more)

  • Almond Oil

  • Jojoba Oil

  • A wooden spoon or stir stick ( no metal or plastic)

  • Vitamin E

  • Pine Essential Oil

  • Lemon Essential Oil

  • A glass dropper bottle for finished product.

  • A label

  • A food scale that measures in grams.

Instructions:

First start by adding 15 grams of jojoba oil into your glass container. Next, add 15 grams of almond oil to your container. Once you have added these two oils you are going to want to add .28 grams of vitamin e ( if you don’t have any liquid vitamin e you can omit this step). After this you are going to add 3 drops of pine essential oil and 3 drops of lemon essential oil and stir all the ingredients together. Now your ready to put your beard oil in a container and label it ( I highly recommended using a dropper bottle as pictured for easy use)

Substitutions:

Coconut (fractionated) and Apricot oils can be used in place of the jojoba and almond.

Eucalyptus essential oil can be used in place of pine essential oil.

Lavender essential oil can be used in place of lemon essential oil.

Please note that any substitutions will result in a different outcome in the final product then the original recipe. While the recipe won’t be ruined it will have a different effectiveness on the beard.
